KHAOSAN AT FIRST GLANCE

Khaosan Road is best described by what it says in “The Beach ”The international best seller book written by British novelist Alex Garland, “When you hit Bangkok the Khaosan Road is the first place you come. It’s a decompression Chamber between East and West.”

At about 400 meters in length, The Khaosan scene mixes one-story wooden buildings which have rusty corrugated iron roofs with modern commercial buildings. There is a tremendous amount of variety in a short space, you will find: restaurants, cafés, trinket & souvenir shops, silver jewelry (sold on the street itself), tailors, minimarts, travel agencies, book stores, currency exchange booths, banks, internet shops, overseas call services, cheap guesthouses, hotels and more. The road is filled up with all you need 24 hours round the clock, from the very cheap to … well, the sky’s the limit. The choice is yours!

The stalls on the walkway are just waiting for you to shop for items such as T shirts, pants, sarongs and many other clothes too, trinkets, CDs, cassettes, fake Rolex watches, carved wooden ornaments and so on. If you are heading for the beach or an island you can even buy a hammock here too. There’s always somebody walking up and down the street offering them up.

This is truly a unique outdoor shopping experience walking in the hot and humid atmosphere. One that you won’t find anywhere else. Not quite like this at any rate. This is KHAOSAN ROAD. “THE BACKPACKER’S PARADISE.”
